July 30, 2014 – Captive regulators from eight domiciles participated in a webinar today focused on Enterprise Risk Captives (also known as 831 (b) Captives) produced by the Self-Insurance Institute of America, Inc. (SIIA). The purpose of the webinar was to provide industry input on licensing and examination issues deemed important for regulators to know.
Earlier this year, SIIA announced that it had started to incorporate the Enterprise Risk Captive (ERC) term because it was more descriptive than the “831 (b)” term that has been the most common term over the last several years.
Jeff Simpson, partner with Gordon, Fournaris & Mammarella, P.A. teamed up with Chaz Lavelle, partner with Bingham Greenbaum Doll LLP to present the information. The webinar is part of a broader ERC educational campaign targeting regulators, industry practitioners and the general business community.
Last year, the association produced a similar regulator webinar focused on stop-loss captive programs.
SIIA has incorporated ERC and stop-loss captive program educational sessions as part of its upcoming National Conference & Expo, scheduled for October 5-7, 2014 in Phoenix. Detailed conference information can be accessed on-line atwww.siia.org, or by calling 800/851-7789.
