Active Captive executive staff attends the 9th Annual Montana Captive Insurance Association Conference, held July 22-24, 2014 in Whitefish Montana.
Conference presentations by Department Regulators Steve Matthews and Tal Redpath provided insight on the current captive profile by type and premium written volume, proposed legislation for 2015 and the growing infrastructure supported by staffing and legislative support. Montana recently licensed their 150th captive. “During the 2013 legislative session, Montana’s law makers continued their overwhelming support of captive insurance by passing legislation to keep Montana at the forefront of competing domiciles,” wrote Montana commissioner of securities and insurance Monica Lindeen in the report’s foreword. (CIT 7/14/2014)
Of particular interest amongst the seven session’s presented over the two day conference was “Introduction to Series LLC Captives, conducted by Jeff Simpson, Esq. and “ The NAIC’s regulatory agenda for the ART industry, conducted by Kevin Doherty, Esq. “Active’s ability to provide risk mitigation solutions to the middle and small market is predicated on legislation of the Series LLC Captives supported by Montana and Delaware” stated Michael C. McKahan, Active’s C.O.O. Dana Hentges Sheridan, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer recently took a public position in opposition to a proposal by the NAIC’s F Committee to add the definition of “multi-state reinsurer” in the preamble to the NAIC Accreditation Standards.
